Today's comic is a very personal one for us. It's a tribute to our friend Bill Douthett (DigitalBill) who died this week. Many of you may know Bill from his Wizards of Technology podcast, or you may have met him at Macworld, in perhaps in IRC, or from his posts in our Forums.

Bill was one of the good guys, a gentle soul with a warm laugh, who would go out of his way to lend anyone some help if they needed it. He helped us many, many times with all sorts of problems, from html to the mysteries of Mac OS X, and he made us laugh. He was a true geek in many ways... inquisitive, knowledgeable, always wanting to learn new things. A longtime fan of the Macintosh, his enthusiasm was infectious. Bill also loved his Newton, bought when they were introduced, and his exploits with his kilts are the stuff of legend.

We'll always remember the fun we had together when he first bought an iSight camera, and hooked up to his PowerBook. He would broadcast live "DBTV" via iChat from places like San Francisco airport. Bill, in a very approachable Man-on-the-Street style, would walk up to complete strangers in the airport and ask them to say hi to us watching up in Canada. They would of course, and we had a riot.

Sadly, even though we knew him for so long, we never had the pleasure to meet Bill in person. But he was a part of our day for the past seven or eight years, and was there for us and encouraged us in our work, from the days when things were going great, to our darkest days when things weren't. We wouldn't hesitate to call him one of our best friends.

Our hearts go out to his family in this time of sadness. We miss him terribly. He was, in the words of so many who are remembering him now, a great guy, and he made our world a better place to live and laugh in.

We were an Amazon Associate for over 15 years, but soon after we published a comic unflattering to Amazon, they canceled our account.

When we tried to find out why, we received this reply... "under the terms of the Operating Agreement, we may terminate your account at any time, with or without cause. This termination is final and not subject to appeal." Gee, thanks Jeff.

But don't worry, we will still bite the hands that feed us, even if they don't help feed us anymore.

The Joy of Tech is a comic about technology and pop culture. We like to feature the people and events that are making tech news. We often focus on Apple news and events, since they often effect the industry in general, and also because we are Apple users ourselves. We create The Joy of Tech using Apple computers, mostly on our PowerBooks, running Mac OS X Tiger. We use software from Apple, Adobe, Macromedia, BBedit, and others, but not much software from Microsoft, although we do use Microsoft Office for Mac on occasion. Nitrozac uses a Wacom tablet to do her illustrations.
